Debut author Hannah Kent will be at {pages} to discuss her novel Burial Rites. The {pages} Evening Bookclub read the book when it first came out and loved it.
Set in Iceland in the 1800's, Burial Rites is based on the true story of the last woman in Iceland to have been put to death for a crime. Hannah weaves a story based on her extensive research which has the reader wondering if the girl was in fact guilty. The reader discovers how brutal it was for a family to survive during that time period, what the people and government were like. The reader is transported to a completely different world, which is so interesting. The {pages} Evening Bookclub is now contemplating a fieldtrip to Iceland in the near future!
